This painting is inspired by the atmospheric beauty and illuminating landscapes of Aotearoa. If I were a poet I would write light filled love letters to New Zealand... essentially these paintings are just that - my visual declarations of love and respect to this land. After recent family travels in the beautiful stunning South Island I am filled with inspiration.
The amazing albatross colony that we visited on the end of Tairoa Heads as seen from close Heyward Point is a more geographical inspired influence for this painting.
The strong horizon line and possibilities of what lies beyond. The taonga and treasure that is this wonderful land we live on is shown with respect and aroha with lots hand applied gold-leaf. The valleys and peaks glowing differently in whatever way you approach the artwork. The many layers in the sea and skies allows a different reading of the painting with different times of the day casting light.
