This artwork is part of an artistic deep dive into the lustre that resonates from rose-gold or copper-leaf as part of the stunning beauty and light angles in Aotearoa.
The atmospheric beauty and illuminating landscapes are 'memory jewels' of places I have been, places I rode my horse in past years and places I have lived. They all come out in a painting like this, an immense amount of reverence and respect for the land, the sea and the skies we get to call our own here in New Zealand - the taonga and the treasure of this land.
Tuhua or Mayor Island is favourite - a beautiful place I see whenever we visit Waihi Beach and stay for a few days - what a pleasure to view on that stunning Coromandel horizon.
The landform glowing with gold-leaf differently in whatever way you approach the artwork. The many layers in the water and sky allows a different reading of the painting with different times of the day casting changing light.
This painting is on display at Waihi Beach Gallery, 21 Wilson Road, Waihi Beach,
